STATE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION AT HUNTINGDON
VISITING RULES
GENERAL INFORMATION
1. Visiting
hours are from 8:15 am to 3:30 pm Thursday thru Monday, including
holidays. The visiting room is CLOSED on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.
2. Due
to institutional programs and scheduling, there is no visitor traffic
into or out of the institution between the hours of 1:45 pm and 2:15
pm. Also, visitor registrations will not be accepted after 3:00 pm. Please plan your visits accordingly.
3. CELL PHONES, PAGERS, CAMERAS are prohibited and should remain in the vehicle.
4. The
frequency of visits shall be a total of six (6) visits per month. Each
inmate may have no more than three (3) of those visits on weekend days
(Saturday and Sunday).
5. Each inmate is limited to a total of five (5) visitors at one time. THIS TOTAL INCLUDES MINORS! Requests for exceptions must be directed to the Superintendent prior to arriving for a visit.
6. The
length of visits shall be a minimum of two (2) hours per visit,
depending upon available visiting room space and each inmate’s
individual program status.
7. All
visitors (including minors) are required to be on the inmates approved
visiting list. Only the inmate can confirm if you are on his visiting
list. Visitors are only permitted to be on one inmates list at each
institution. Requests for exceptions must be directed to the
Superintendent prior to arriving for a visit.
8. All
visitors (including minors) must have proper ID. One (1) photo ID with
date of birth or two (2) non-photo ID’s (at least one must have date
of birth). Photocopies of any ID will not be accepted.
9. In the contact visits, an inmate and his visitors may only embrace upon meeting and when leaving the visiting area. (Excessive kissing and/or petting are not permitted and may result in termination of the visit and disciplinary action).
10. Adult visitors are permitted to bring the following items for a visit: Identification
for all visitors, Automobile keys (NO REMOTE STARTERS), Life sustaining
medications (Nitro & Inhalers), Money (see VENDING MACHINES section below). Additional items for children may be brought (see SPECIAL RULES PERTAINING TO CHILDREN section below).
11. ALL TOBACCO products are prohibited from ALL VISITING AREAS.
12. Visitors
are not permitted to leave anything (gifts, money orders, etc…) for
the inmate. No objects may be exchanged between a visitor and an
inmate.
13. All visitors (including minors) are required to pass through a walk-through metal detector. Please dress accordingly.
If any one person arriving for a visit fails the metal detector, all of
the visitors on that visit may be restricted (non-contact, denied,
etc…).
14. The
dress code at SCI Huntingdon prohibits wearing the following items:
halter-tops, tube-tops, tank-tops, strapless dresses or tops, short
shorts, mini-skirts or sleeveless tops or dresses with loose fitting
armhole openings. Also not permitted are see-through or revealing
clothing (this includes clothes that are too tight, have holes or
cutouts that reveal flesh or the appearance thereof). Dress, skirt and
short length may be no shorter than mid-thigh when standing with no
slits extending beyond mid-thigh.
15. Please
be sure to sign in upon your arrival and sign out before you leave. All
information requested on the sign-in sheet (name, complete address,
etc…) must be filled in completely. If you travel by private vehicle,
you will be asked to register the year, make, model and license number
of the vehicle.
16. All
inmates are informed of changes that may occur in visiting regulations.
It is the responsibility of each inmate to inform his visitors of these
changes.
17. Visits may be disallowed, restricted, or terminated for any one of the following reasons:
A. Any visit that is a threat to the security or order of the institution.
B. Any visitor who cannot produce identification or who falsifies any identifying information.
C. Violation
of any visiting room rule. This includes all rules listed here and all
rules posted in the visiting areas. Disruptive or disrespectful
behavior from visitors or inmates will not be tolerated.
D. Refusal to submit to any search procedure (ion-scan, metal detector, vehicle search, etc…).
E. Failing the ion-scan, metal detector, vehicle search, etc…
F. Any
visitor appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled
substance will not be permitted to enter the institution.
18. Please remember that violations of visiting regulations may result in the suspension of visiting privileges.
19. Due
to the physical layout of SCI Huntingdon, all visitors arriving and
entering the visiting room on a single pass must all stay or leave
together.
20. After
you have been registered for your visit and issued your visiting pass,
you are not permitted to return to your vehicle for any reason. Doing
so may result in the termination of your visit.
SPECIAL RULES PERTAINING TO CHILDREN
1. An inmate may hold small children 5 years old or younger on his lap. Otherwise, each visitor must sit in his or her own seat.
2. Children are to be kept under control by the parent or guardian present.
3. The following items are permitted to be brought into the visiting areas for children as needed:
INFANTS
A. 3 clear plastic bottles of milk or mixed formula
B. 3 diapers
C. Baby wipes in a travel pack or clear zip-lock bag
D. 1 diaper rash cream
E. 1 receiving blanket
F. 1 change of clothing
G. 1 pacifier (1 teething ring as needed)
H. 3 unopened jars of baby food
I. 1 bib
J. 1 baby spoon
TODDLERS
A. 3 diapers / pull-ups / training pants as required
B. 1 empty sippy cup
4. Any special needs or requests for additional items must be directed to the Superintendent prior to arriving for a visit.
INMATES HOUSED IN THE RHU
1. RHU inmates are permitted visits that are restricted to the following rules:
A. Allowed one (1) visit per month
B. Visitor(s) must be immediate family
C. The duration of the visit will be for one (1) hour
D. The
visit will be conducted as a live video visit with the inmate remaining
in the RHU while the visitor is in a video booth in the Inside Visiting
Room
E. These visits will take place Mondays, Thursday and Fridays only.
VISITING YARDS
1. Both the Inside and Outside Visiting Rooms have outdoor visiting areas.
- These areas will only be utilized on weekends & holidays based on the number of people visiting and as weather permits
- Sitting or lying on the grass in the outdoor visiting areas is prohibited.
- Visitors and inmates are not permitted to sit on the tables or to straddle the benches
VENDING MACHINES
1. Food
items, snacks and beverages are not permitted to be brought into the
institutions Visiting Rooms. These items may be purchased from the
vending machines located in the Visiting Areas.
2. INMATES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO HANDLE MONEY AT ANY TIME.
3. Visitors
are permitted to bring up to $50.00 each. No denominations larger than
a $5.00 bill will be permitted in the Visiting Rooms. STAFF CANNOT MAKE
CHANGE. Coins are permitted.
PHOTOGRAPH SERVICES
1. Photo services by the Altar Rock Jaycees are available by notifying the Visiting Room Officer.
2. YOU MUST NOTIFY THE VISITING ROOM OFFICER PRIOR TO 1:00 PM. The on duty cameraman WILL NOT be called for after 1:00 pm.
3. Photos may be pre-purchased
by the inmate (cost = $1.75) or tokens purchased from the token
machines in the Visiting Rooms. Tokens cost $1.00 each and photos are
two (2) tokens per photo.
4. Photos
will only be retaken if the camera malfunctions or if the film is
defective. The cameramen are all trained to give you sufficient notice
that they are about to snap the photo. Photos WILL NOT be retaken if
you are looking away, eyes closed, etc…
The
Department of Corrections encourages you to put money on inmate accounts
electronically using one of the two following options:

Please
remember: If your friend or family member owes fines, costs or
restitution, a percentage of any money you deposit (regardless if it is
electronically deposited) may go to paying his or her debt in accordance with
DC-ADM-005
How To Email an
Inmate
1. Go to
the vendor website that services the institution where the inmate is housed.
2.
Establish an account with that vendor and follow their instructions to create
an email.
3. All
emails are subject to review for appropriate content. After
review, the email will be printed on paper and delivered to the inmate.
4. Any
response from the inmate will be mailed out using regular U.S. Postal Service
mail. Inmates do NOT have access to any outgoing email programs.
