Im a first time user on here and Im not sure what to do but if anyone sees this, please help me understand why my husband hasn't called home yet?  I don't know anything and when I call the prison everyone is so stern and wont give me any info, they just say wait till you hear from him.  He is in San Quentin state prison.

There can be numerous answers here, so I will only go by my experience while in prison. First, it is common that lots of times when you first enter prison, you are very restricted in phone use because you are going through processing. That's when the DOC is getting info about the inmate, and determining which prison to send them.  Lots of times during those first 4-8 weeks an inmate might be restricted in use of phones.

But add to this a second reason, the shock of prison itself.  When I first went in prison, I had to adjust to everything, and one of the last things I was worried about was calling home; I just had so many other issues to deal with.  I don't remember calling home but maybe once, if then, while I was in processing.

Third, the classification also determines how often you CAN call.  In minimum custody, you could use the phone from about 10am to 11pm, and could call as often as you liked.  When I was in medium custody, only one call a week and you had to sign for it.  In some prisons, only 1 call a YEAR.

These and other things could play into it, not including stress, depression and things like that.  I could easily chat up 5 pages but I hope that kinda gives you some idea.  My very best wishes to you and your loved one. Hang in there.
