My fiance was recently at NCCF in Rockwell City on probation revocation
charges, based on being charged with theft. He was there from November 2007 to March 2008, he saw the
Iowa Board of Parole early as he had already completed any programs available to him such Criminal Thinking.
He was given a straight release, as it was more productive to have him out and working, being a provider and
repaying his debt to society. He then went to court where he was sentenced on the original charges and is now
going right back to prison. Everybody we talk to, such as his counselor at NCCF, his parole officer are in
agreement that he would be taking up space back in prison and that being here working or perhaps in a work
release program would be a better fit all around. He is due to prison on May 1st.
He called the Iowa Board of Parole was not allowed to talk with them because he is currently
on parole. The woman he spoke with did mention that she thought it would be in his best interest if he were
allowed to stay out of prison and to contact his counselor at NCCF. We have done that and she has written a
letter stating that in her professional opinion, staying out or participating in a Work Release program would be
better all around.
We are trying to get letters, phone calls, faxes, etc. from everybody involved to take to the judge to see what
else can be done. If there are other avenues that you are aware of, we would appreciate your time. As you can
tell, time is very urgent. We would appreciate a fast response. Thank you.
What else can I do?
Hi,
I read your post and see you are in a tight situation. What about getting some help from his Public Defender. I mean, appealing to him might get some free advice and if you are lucky, a well placed phone call.
Sounds like you are already gathering letters from Parole personnel and employers too, I presume. You might want to try the North Central Aftercare Program. They help recently released inmates...they may have some ideas or direction for you. Try Al Schmidke 515-332-1289. Also, if you can find a number for the group, Prisoner Assistance Clinic, Iowa City. They may help as well.
Good luck!!
