I would like to start a new forum for wives and girlfriends of texas prison inmates. i have been a long time member of another prison support site, but recently left it due to the polocies being corrupted. i have lots of info to share, and can bring some great people to this site. if you have a boyfriend or husband in a texas prison, please drop a line here, and let's help each other.

I would love to be part of this forum as well.

It is very hard for those of us that have loved ones in Texas prisons. I think Texas prisons are still so backwater. NO care packages, no phones (yet) just so many restictions.  This is a place where we can come together and support eachother through words of encouragement.

Hello,

I am not a wife or a girlfriend, I am a mother. My son is in Huntsville's Byrd unit, but will be moved soon to the Unit where he will finish out his time. I would like someone to please tell me what to expect when I go to see him in prison for the first time. The only thing I know is it will be contact (Thank God) I have not got to touch my son in over 9 months. At the visit I will be taking my other children as well ages 18, 15, 8 & 21 months. I would like to know what the (stupid) rules are. I don't want a lot of surprises. I have to stay strong for my other kids. Knowing some of how it will be, will help me stay calm therefore they will not be scared. Any info about Texas prison visitation rules will help. Wishing you all a good New Year. God bless.

Tammy, great that you are getting to visit your son! You will find visitation to be very easy. I am not sure how it works at Huntsville but, when I made visits I had to be "approved" by the prison first. Once approved, I simply showed up and was taken to a large visitation room with about 30 tables. I had to go thru a metal detector then sit and wait for the visit to start. The inmates are sat in a position which is visible to the guards at the front of the room. Contact is allowed, couples often hold hands. There were vending machines, decks of cards and movies playing on the TV to entertain the kids.

Again, I am not sure how your visits will be but, probably will be similar

Hello,

Can someone please tell me where and how I can get one of these hand books I've heard so much about? It's been 9 months since I've got to touch my son, and I don't know how much longer it will be. Bot I do know that when I finally do get to see him I don't plan on letting any CO try and throw something on me that isn't right and spoil my visit. I would like to get one of those books to be studing it so hopefully by the time I get to visit my son I'll know it inside out. How long can the hug last? I know not 9 months worth, but I don't want to get into trouble bit at the same time I will not let them run over me simply because they are in an uniform or are having a bad day. Any info would help as I am i the dark here.

Hello Tammy

You can find the California Inmate Visiting Guidelines under our downloads section of the menu bar. it is a pdf format, so it should make it easy for you. They have recently changed, last thursday, the amount of money you are allowed to bring from $20 to $50 per adult, and $20 for children... make sure to put it in a clear bag or coin purse

Tee,

Middleton visitation is okay... Now if he just got there you wont get contact visists cuz they have to be in the system for 90 days before you get contact.  So you will sit and visit with him through a glass and a phone for 2 hours, or 4 depending on how far you have come.

You get to get him snacks,, they have a variety of food,, sandwhiches, chips, etc,,,, you can get up as much as you want cuz the guards there are pretty nice....

The hospitality house is really close,,, and they are really ncie there so if you have to stay over stay there, it is free they go off of donations, they have a stocked kitchen where you can cook, you have private rooms that have bunkbeds in them but it is great.  There is a chapel there and the best part for me was i could sit outside at night (right across from the prison) and look at the lights and know that i was just feet from my baby..........  that as wierd as it was was comforting to me............
