Well, another weekend is finally here! I am heading out first thing tomorrow for visitation.
Anyone else going to travel for visitation this weekend?
Yes, I too have to make a long journey to visit my son. I will leave tonight prayerfully the van will leave between 11pm-11:30pm and ride until 6:30-7:00am. But Love really and truly conquers all. So off to see my son. I pray you enjoy your visit as well as you fellowship and break bread with your loved one behind the walls.

YES! I am off to visitation this evening as well! I love the first few minutes, re-connecting, sharing stories over coffee...and just watching him!

Can you or anyone on this site please help me? My son Daniel is in the Byrd unit in Huntsville TX. He is waiting to be moved to his perminit unit. I have not been able to visit him yet and it has been 9 months since I have got to touch my son. I'm sure that every state has their own set of STUPID rules. Can someone tell me what to expect, how it will be. I will also be taking my daughters ages 18, 15, 8, & 20 months. I will feel so much better knowing how things work. This is all new to me because Daniel has never been in any kind of trouble.

Tammy,, while he is at the byrd unit you can not visit him.... It is an improccesing center. Once he gets to his unit you can,,, however contact visists are restricted until he is at tdc for 90 days,,, the kids are find... As long as you are able to control them all at visitation.
I know how hard this is on you, but hang in there. We are all in the same boat.
How long of a sentance did he get? you will encounter many down days for your son. He will go through so many different emotions., Write, write write him,, that is the highlight of thier days mostly.
Make sure he has money on his comisarry so that he can buy the things he needs, toothpaste, toilet paper, writing paper, stamps, etc.... and food... they dont like the food in prison too much. My husband was at byrd for only 2 weeks,,, SO hang in there.

Thank you for your words. As for the kids the only one I'm worried about is the baby (21 months) she is bad, and I don't see her being good 30 minutes much less 2 hours. The others are 18 years, 15 years, 8 years, ANd hopefully between all of us we can keep her intertained. He really wants to hold her. I was told that he will be able to hold her as much as he wants to , but we'll see. I read what you had wrote about a hospitallity house, do all prisons have these? Are there requirments as to how far you have to travel to be allowed to spend the night there? Hopefully they will place him close to home and I will not need this service. And I am hoping for a contact visit he has been in tdc for some time. He was in Middleton moved to Sanchez Unit, back to county on bench warrent, back to Middleton, then to Byrd, he has been there 5 weeks now. I got a letter today and he said he will probably be moved this week. Please help me pray that they place him close to home. I'm like everybody else money is so tight and I wany to see him as much as I can. God bless

Tammy make sure the 18 year old is on his visitation list or they wont let her in... THe others are fine cuz they are minors.... He was at Sanchez huh? That is right across the street from my house....
Not all prisons have hospitality houses near them so when he gets settled call and find out,. Also if you are 300 miles away you are eligable for a special visit once a month, that is 4 hours on saturday and 4 hours on sunday......
I stand in agreement with you that your son is at the place where God needs him to be,,, hopefully that is very very close to you.... I cant believe he has been at byrd for 5 weeks,, they must not have any beds available in the unit they want to send him too.
I havent worked for over a year, I just got back to work but God has blessed me with magical favor to go and see my husband every weekend, that is 234 miles away. That is such a blessing to me.
The first time you get to hug him and hold his hand is going to be amazing but i do want to warn you when its time to go it is going to crush you all over again, so please prepare yourself. Even for me, every saturday letting go is the hardest part of this whole darn nightmare.
Yes, they are there because they did something wrong, and they are paying the price, but you are too. You worry, you stress, its very hard for those of us out here with loved ones on the inside.
Sept of 08 the texas prisons will be installing payphones so that will be a small relief, they can call home collect, right now they only get a 4 minute call every 90 days and that is if it gets approved by the warden.
What is he in for if you dont mind me asking, and how long does he have. My is in for a parole violation from an agg asault when he was 15, he is 24 now, he went back to TDC in august but has been locked up in county since April. We are praying for parole this month.....

Hello, I got a letter from Daniel today he has been moved to the Darrington Unit in Rosharon, Tx. Any heads up about this place? Please let me know. God bless.
Hey Tammy, Rosharon is 45 mins from my house. If I'm thinking correctly the Darrington Unit is off hwy 288 in Rosharon. You can always call the Chamber of Commerce in the area of the town you want to visit and they can send you a visitors pac with info for that county as well as point you in the right direction of other questions may have. Not sure where your coming from but our country side is alittle flat here. But Rosharon is only30-45 mins from the beach. Enjoy your visit Don't forget the tissues.

Well I was just dealt another blow. I was on and for some reason went to the inmate locater site and found out that my son is not in Rosharon but in Edinburg over 500 miles away. So yea I,m having a break down right about now. I thought Rosharon was bad. I'd take it any day. My hopes of seeing Daniel where just pretty much snatched from my hands with this news.I called hoping there was a mistake well no such luck they have him. I know he is so upset. I don't know who told him he was going to Rosharen, but somebody did cause thats the address he sent me.And then to top it all off they tell us that my oldest daughter isn't on his list and I know good and well that she is. I hate how they mess with people. And I've already called and there's no hospitality house down there. This just keeps getting better and better.We are talking some money for me to be able to go and see him. Money which I don't have. Pray that God will make a way. On the directory it says that Segovia ia a pre-release unit. What does that mean? Well I've vented got to go cook supper. The way I'm feeling they my be eating burnt this and raw that tonight.
Hey Tammy, Im so sorry to here your son is so far away. Remember things happen for a reason. Hopefully pre-release unit means early release but Im no expert. we'll all keep you and your family in our preyers.
I AM SO SICK OF ALL OF THIS. THE MORE I THINK ABOUT IT THE MADDER I GET. WHY IN THE H--- DO THEY HAVE TO PLACE THEM SO FAR FROM HOME? I'LL TELL YOU WHY BECAUSE THEY ARE HEARTLESS. THEY WANT TO PUNISH THE WHOLE FAMILY. I'LL TELL YOU WHAT THEY NEED TO DO THAT IS SET A MAXIMUME AMOUNT OF MILES THAT AN INMATE CAN BE PLACED AWAY FROM THEIR HOMES. I THINK 150 IS FAR ENOUGH. THEY TALK ABOUT PRISON OVER CROWDING AND NOT ENOUGH FUNDS. HELLO!!!!!!! THEY ARE WASTING GAS MONEY MOVING THESE PEOPLE ALL OVER THE PLACE. PLACE THEM CLOSE TO HOME AND SAVE SOME MONEY, STOP PUNISHING THE FAMILIES. MY SON IS OVER 500 MILES AWAY. THEY PLACED HIM JUST AS FAR AWAY FROM ME AS THEY COULD. HE WAS IN WICHITA FALLS TX WHEN ALL OF THIS STARTED. SEE HOW UNFEELING THEY ARE LOOK WHERE THEY PUT HIM. AS I'M TYPING THIS I GOT A LETTER FROM HIM HE SAYS AT ONE POINT IN THE MCCONNELL UNIT THEY WHERE PLACED IN A BIG CAGE OUTSIDE FOR 3-4 HOURS. THEY KEPT TELLING THE GUARDS THAT THEY NEEDED THE BATHROOM ONLY TO BE IGNORED. FINALLY THEY JUST TOOK TURNS PEEING THROUGH THE CAGE, THEN THE GUARD GOT MAD. SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT. YA'LL PLEASE PRAT FOR ME I'M DEALING WITH ALOT OF ANGER RIGHT NOW. NOT THAT IT WILL DO ANY GOOD.(ME BEING ANGRY) I WOULD LOVE TO TELL THE PEOPLE WHO PLACE THEM JUST WHERE THEY CAN GO AND WHAT I THINK OF THEM.

Its sad to say but TDC does not think of the family and the hardships, they simply put them where they have a bed. There will be sacrifices that we have to make in order to be thier suport system. While in prison it seems that thier world stops, ours doesnt. We still have bills, we still have children to raise, we still have jobs to do.
As hard as it may be you got to find it within yourself to accept where he is at. You can not allow the system to take control of your mind and that is what i see happening. We have all been where you are at. My husband gets called a B%^$# every single day. He gets put down, he gets pushed around by the guards, he gets belittled, but I continually tell him in all my letters that he is the head of my house and that no matter what any says to him or does to him, he will always be someone to me. I just keep telling him things like that because while he is getting degraded inside it is my job as his wife to keep him uplifted. So daily he gets my letters, and daily through they can try and break his spirirt I keep him focused. I am stronger than those guards. Im am his spiritual partner and I will not fail him.
Yes the things he goes through hurt my heart, but I dont allow the system to suck me up and I jump on the same boat he is on and continually put down the system. Not to him, oh trust me I say what I feel, but never to him. To him I just remind him its a game they play. I also tell him to keep his cool and he will win this game by coming home.
Last week one of the CO's made him throw a hand made ring away. My husband was very attached to his wedding ring, its the only symbol that he has that he is married right now. He has had that made ring for months, yet last week they messed with him so much and forced him to throw it in the trash. Its just a game, that ring hurt no one, it actually kept him focused,,, so I told him this weekend that they can strip him of his ring but they can never take me out of his heart. Or vice versa......
I stand with you and pray with you for your son, and your sister. I pray that you find a way to visit and that you do so without causing a hardship on yourself. I also pray for peace in your mind as this is going to eat you up if you dont let it go. Im not saying dont worry, we all do, but this is Texas, this is thier game and we are just the players. We can write letters, we can protest we can do whatever we have to do, but please dont lose yourself in this. Give it to God.... I know, I know that is so hard to do, we lay our burdons down at the alter and then 4 minutes later we go and pick them back up cuz God isnt doing it fast enough. His time is the perfect time.
Im no expert on anything that I have written here, but I do know that God has not failed me, yes my husband is in prison but that was all his will to do what he did. NOT GODS..... All I can do is pray that while he is there God is able to really touch his heart and my husband desires change. PRison saved my husbands life, and or mine......... it def saved our marriage.
Tammy, hang on, this ride gets bumpy, but all of us are in the same boat. Find peace in knowing that you are not alone. We all understand , we all feel the pain, and we all feel the frustration of what our system is about. Let Go and Let God.............
