Heroes and Prison
Heroes and Prison
Well, one of my favorite shows comes on in about an hour, that being “Heroes” on …well, they don’t pay me to promote it so I ain’t saying which channel it comes on.
I know that football comes on too, as well as wrestling…but I am not such a big fan of wrestling since WWE tends to try to give us a soap opera rather than wrestling matches. So I am kinda in a limbo for the next hour or so.
But it allows me to blog out some things, one being the Christmas Cards. I made mention of that a few entries ago, if you get the chance, go back and read it and email me or something if you are interested. I got a couple of people that said they were interested, but I am going to need more interested if I am going to invest that kinda time in this project.
Basically what we are talking about is a package of Christmas cards for inmates (made by me). I am proposing a 15 card set, with at least 2 holiday encouragement certificates and other prison documents by me. Right now, I have at least 8 Christmas cards ready to design and write out, but about 50 other cards already made for inmates.
If you have been reading my stuff for awhile, and have a loved one in prison, don’t wait until December 15th and then ask me for this, you and I both know this will be way too late. I know it’s not even Halloween yet, but when it comes to Christmas stuff, you gotta get on it sooner than later.
I know that I am not going to outdo Wal-mart or Hallmark, but I am guessing they really don’t give a damn about “criminals” anyway. So if you are serious in sending your loved one or friend a card, let me know now, so I can work on it.
I started a blog group on myspace, and got a couple of people interested. I don’t expect the floodgates to fly open, since you can actually read my blogs without being in a blog group. But you know, it sucks on myspace when you get a ton of people who seem to be interested in your group, but it turns out to be a bunch of people trying to get you to link up to some porn site.
This is NOT the place for that.
It is funny because about an hour or so after I started the group, I had like 8 or 9 people wanting to join or sending me a request to be a friend. I looked at them, and checked out the name, and each one of them led to the same damn message. Some crap about “I can’t put my nude pictures on line, but check me out at…”
That is the thing about the internet, you get jerks that try to spike your space with crap like that. I have also seen this on a few prison sites too. It really gets me upset when people go out of their way to put porn links on a site that has nothing to do with that…
But let me back up a bit. I swear, Prison Talk Online is getting damn close to some of their forums being porn. Some of the forums, especially the ones with husbands and wives, have so many suggestive questions that I really think some of the members need to get a life.
I mean, really. Get another MAN and stop lusting online.
When a lady writes a post about “when was the last time your man had sex with you” that tells me she has got a problem. I mean, think about this for a second… how would a guy in prison feel about his “girlfriend” talking about his sex life…to the world.
Remember that post I wrote about “the difference between your “man” and your “loved one”? Some of the responses from it give me some idea that lots of women with men in prison see him not as a loved one, but as a piece of meat.
These are the kinda people that talk about “their man” with little respect to what that human being really is. Don’t get me wrong, this is not across the board, but I think if I was in prison, and my girlfriend was sharing pictures of me on some site, I might be pretty pissed.
A person who sees their man as a “loved one” would not do that. There is no therapy in putting your “man” out there to the rest of the world. There is no therapy in talking about the last time you had sex with your man. But many of these people don’t seem themselves as looking at this man in prison in such a materialistic way.
To me, it is just kinda juvenile. If you love that man in prison, then that is fine, but there is a mature and a juvenile way of sharing that love to others. I said it once, and I say it again, a lot of people on those sites don’t really miss their man, they have a fetish about guys in prison. And I know there are exceptions to the rule, but you learn about a member of a site by what they talk about.
If I was posting about “does your man wear boxers of briefs” or “do you wear your man’s clothes” or things like that, it sounds like I was being materialistic…
Wait!!!! You KNOW what I mean! Don’t start getting mixed up in what I said.
Well, at any rate, I don’t read those posts at all, nor do I post on them. To me, many people who write posts like that are very likely to find another man to satisfy themselves when that “man” isn’t available.
“Hey, that’s not fair”.
Maybe it isn’t, but I have also noticed that people who make those kinda posts are NOT the ones trying to cope with a loved one in prison. It’s like they really don’t miss that “man” they have been talking so much about. They love him, but not in the deep sense of him being the combination of the best friend and soul mate. More like the model off the video kinda love…which is not lasting.
Ok, let me get off the subject, because I probably upset some people. By the way, if I did, I said that this does not apply to everyone, although I will wager it applies to most people who make those kinda posts.
And this is actually important because when I write, I remember those guys that are in prison. I know there are guys that cheat on their girls, but it goes both ways too. Some girls talk about how much they love their man in prison, but are out in the clubs with every other man they can find.
“Now wait a minute, that is NOT fair!”
Ok, point taken. Women with guys in prison have to get on with their lives, and however they choose to do it is what they have to do. But if you choose to get involved with another man outside while you have one on the inside, you need to make up your mind on who you are REALLY supporting.
Anyway, let me get back to the title for a sec.
I addressed this question before, but I will look at it again, are there “heroes” in prison? I mean, that sounds like the greatest contradiction, like a Christian atheist. Surely this cannot be true. There just can’t be heroes in prison, right?
Well, with my show coming on in about 45 minutes, I think I could debate this deeply, but will make my point in that a hero does not have to have super powers. He or she just has to be someone who helped you get through a very difficult time. I mean, isn’t that what the comic books heroes and even television shows display. You have confrontation, and great tribulation. But certain people help you get through it. Those people are heroes.
Are there any in prison? Sure. Maybe not in the context you would see it, but then again, you probably have never been inside of prison except for a visit, so it would be hard for you to really see this angle.
To me, there certainly were people that helped my time go by easier, both in jail and prison. And some of these people are inmates. Some are officers. A couple were teachers in those prisons. These people help others do their time much easier than just being a taskmaster that expects inmates to follow every order given.
So yeah, there are heroes in prison. There are people that help others do their time easier, even without knowing it. A guy with a positive attitude, a guy that always seem to be in a good mood, a guy that you can talk to about life. Those people, even if seen by society as insignificant, are important. I will say that without guys like that, my time would have been MUCH more harder to do.
Anyway, I better wrap this up, I think I will grab a cup of coffee before I watch tv. I can see myself playing video games tonight until maybe 1am. Oh, let me get this off my chest too…I am SICK of embarq!!!
Ciao, AH
