A couple of months ago, I sat in a room of staff interviewing a potential candidate for a position with PFM. After the usual peppering with questions, the candidate got a turn to ask questions of his own. He didn’t miss a beat. He wanted to know: “How do you do it? I mean, what keeps you going? How do you have compassion for these people?” I was sort of taken aback by the question about prisoners, and it caused me to think, to retrace my steps on this journey of compassion the Lord has invited me on. As I did my best to articulate a response, I realized that perhaps this is a journey worth sharing, how God helped me to view offenders and ex-offenders with new eyes.
