SCI Waymart is located in a building complex that was formerly part of Farview State Hospital. Pressed into operation ahead of schedule following the 1989 Camp Hill riot, the joint on-site operation of a state prison and state mental health facility was unique. In October 1995, Farview State Hospital was transferred from the Department of Public Welfare to the Department of Corrections. Now known as the department's Forensic Treatment Unit, the unit houses mentally disabled male inmates who require inpatient psychiatric care and treatment. The institution also houses minimum-security inmates.

    Visiting Information

Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Weekends and Holidays 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors should arrive at the institution by 3:30 p.m. to be granted admittance.

    Rules:

Each inmate will be limited to five visitors per visit. Visitors may visit only one inmate per day and each inmate shall have no more than one visit per week. In the case of inmates being immediate relatives (brother or father and son), exceptions can be made.

Children up to 18 years of age may visit with an adult, other than a parent, provided a signed parental consent form is on file. A parental consent form is not necessary if children are visiting in the company of their parents.

Anyone over age 18 may visit without the accompaniment of an adult.

All visitors, including children, are required to have a picture id or 2 forms of non-picture id.

Visitors with any kind of orthopedic hardware need to present a card, from the attending physician, documenting the hardware, in order to be granted a contact visit.

All visitors must be on the inmate's approved visiting list before they will be allowed to enter the institution. It is the inmate?s responsibility to request additions and deletions to the list.

    General visiting guidelines

Please be on time for your visit. It may take time to locate an individual inmate for a visit, and we ask you to please be patient.

Have proper identification with you, preferably a driver?s license or other photo ID. You will not be permitted to visit without proper identification.

Please be sure to sign in upon your arrival and sign out before you leave. If you travel to private vehicle, you will be asked to register the year, make, model and license number.

All visitors are subject to search upon entering the institution, while at the institution, and before leaving the institution. If you refuse to be searched before entering the institution, your visiting privileges may be denied. If you refuse to be searched while in the institution or upon leaving the institution, you may be detained until the appropriate law enforcement authorities arrive.

Cameras, tape recorders, radios and handbags are not permitted in the visiting area.

Visits are a minimum of one hour in length; however, this may be increased depending upon the number of visits occurring that day.

Inmates placed in disciplinary custody status may have their visiting privileges restricted.

Please use good judgment and discretion in dress and behavior so as not to embarrass others or yourself in the visiting area. Keep children under control. Failure to do so may result in early termination of your visit.

Ex-offenders must have prior approval from the Superintendent to visit any inmate.

Do not bring any kind of gift to the institution.

Remember, inmates are not permitted to take anything from the visiting area.

Vending machines are available in the visiting area.

Any visitor appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance will not be permitted to enter the institution.

All inmates are informed of changes that may occur in visiting regulations. It is the responsibility of each inmate to inform his or her visitors of these changes.

Please remember that any violation of visiting regulations or posted regulations may result in the suspension of visiting privileges.

The Department of Corrections encourages you to put money on inmate accounts electronically using one of the two following options:

    JPay

    Western Union

Please remember:  If your friend or family member owes fines, costs or restitution, a percentage of any money you deposit (regardless if it is electronically deposited) may go to paying his or her debt in accordance with DC-ADM-005

    How To Email an Inmate

    1. Go to the vendor website that services the institution where the inmate is housed.

    2. Establish an account with that vendor and follow their instructions to create an email.

    3. All emails are subject to review for appropriate content.  After review, the email will be printed on paper and delivered to the inmate.

    4. Any response from the inmate will be mailed out using regular U.S. Postal Service mail.  Inmates do NOT have access to any outgoing email programs.
