The State Correctional Institution at Retreat is located in Luzerne County, about 11 miles south of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., along the Susquehanna River and U.S. Route 11. It was opened in 1988 on the site of the Retreat State Hospital which closed in 1981. Today, SCI Retreat is a medium-security correctional institution housing adult male offenders
 
Directions to SCI Retreat

From The Philadelphia Area:  Take the Northeast Extension of the PA Turnpike (Interstate 476) North to the Wilkes-Barre, Exit 105 (Old Exit 36), Route 115.  Turn Left onto Route 115 North, proceed to Interstate 81 South.  Go South approximately five miles to Exit 164 (Old Exit 44), Nanticoke, Route 29.

From the Pittsburgh Area:  Go East on the PA Turnpike to Exit 226 (Old Exit 16) at Carlisle, then North on Interstate 81, or East on Interstate 80 to Exit 260 (the Interstate 81 Junction).  Take 81 North to Exit 164 (Old Exit 44), Nanticoke, Route 29.

From Interstate 81:  Go West on Route 29 approximately six miles to Route 11 South, just after crossing
the Susquehanna River.  Go South on Route 11 through West Nanticoke.  Continue South approximately four miles, where you will see the Hunlock Creek Post Office on the Right side.  Continue on Route 11 approximately two miles, where there is a sign for SCI Retreat on the Left.  Turn Left, cross the bridge, and bear Right at the Y.

How To Email an Inmate

 

1. Go to the vendor website that services the institution where the inmate is housed.

 

2. Establish an account with that vendor and follow their instructions to create an email.

 

3. All emails are subject to review for appropriate content.  After review, the email will be printed on paper and delivered to the inmate.

 

4. Any response from the inmate will be mailed out using regular U.S. Postal Service mail.  Inmates do NOT have access to any outgoing email programs.
