SCI-Forest1 Woodland DrivePO Box 307Marienville, PA 16239-0307 Phone: (814) 621-2110Fax: (814) 927-8143 On September 29, 2004, Corrections Secretary Jeffrey A. Beard, Ph.D., and General Services Secretary Donald T. Cunningham Jr. joined approximately 150 local, state and federal officials and dignitaries to formally dedicate the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Forest, Forest County. The new, state-of-the-art maximum-security prison, which is situated on approximately 64 acres, is scheduled to begin housing adult male inmates in October or November 2004. Built at a cost of $138 million, the prison will house approximately 2,200 inmates and will employ 650 individuals at full operation. According to state officials, the prison represents great opportunity for economic revitalization in Forest County and the surrounding communities. “This prison will help us meet our mission of protecting the public, but it also will help to stimulate the economy in a county where jobs are scarce,” Secretary Beard said. "The stark reality is that one of the most important public facilities built by the state are our correctional facilities," General Services Secretary Donald T Cunningham, Jr. said. "And this state of the art prison, built by a consortium of 30 contractors, provides cost-effective housing for our inmates and protection for the surrounding community."
