Background

  • Created as a result of the Hinton Economic Development Authority’s effort to stimulate the local economy, the facility is Oklahoma’s first privately managed medium-security prison.
  • Security measures include perimeter fencing, razor wire, state-of-the-art electronic controls and closed-circuit television cameras.
  • A 44-bed minimum-security offender dormitory is included at the facility.
  • The facility features Prison Industries Enhancement (PIE), a program in association with a local business.

Programs

The following voluntary programs and services help prepare offenders to return to their local communities and provide for their well being while at the facility.

  • Educational offerings include GED, Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL) and computer training and lab.
  • Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and a Therapeutic Community based on life skills and re-entry concepts are available to the offenders.
  • Pre-release program offers training for offenders preparing to re-enter the community.
  • Local ministers provide culturally relevant religious support. Faith-based programming for all denominations is offered.
  • Employment training and assistance includes interview techniques, resume writing and completing applications.
  • Vocational training in areas such as landscaping, brick masonry, food service and general maintenance.
  • Prison Industries Enhancement (PIE) features training for custom carpet making and teaches good work habits, including safety requirements.
  • Dining, laundry and medical services are provided along with recreational and physical activity opportunities.

Accreditation and Recognitions

  • The facility earned and has maintained accreditation through the American Correctional Association since 1999.
  • The facility won Cornell Companies’ Pinnacle Awards competition for community service in 2000.
  • 2003 Partners for Progress Award from the Caddo Kiowa Technology Center.
