From Boston: Take Route 93 South/SoutheastExpressway to the Braintree split at Route 3. Take Routes 128/93 to Route 95 South. Take the Route 1 South/Wrentham exit. Follow past Foxboro Stadium to the third set of lights (Layayette House Restaurant on right). Turn right onto Pine Street. At the stop sign, turn right. Pine Street joins Route 115. At the first set of traffic lights, turn right onto Route 1A North. Go past Industries Drive with sign for Pondville Correctional Center on the left. MCI-Cedar Junction is at the top of the hill on the left.

From the North: Take Route 495 South to exit 15 (Route 1A North/Wrentham). Go approximately 9 miles and through 2 sets of traffic lights. Go past Industries Drive with sign for Pondville Correctional Center on the left. MCI-Cedar Junction is at the top of the hill on the left.

From the South: Take Route 495 North to exit 14A (Route 1 North). Follow Route 1 North past the Foxboro State Police barracks to the first set of traffic lights (Lafayette House Restaurant on left). Turn left onto Pine Street. At the stop sign, turn right. Pine Street joins Route 115. At the first set of traffic lights, turn right onto Route 1A North. Go past Industries Drive with sign for Pondville Correctional Center on the left. MCI-Cedar Junction is at the top of the hill on the left.

From the East: Take Route 140 West to the center of Wrentham. Take a right at the set of traffic lights onto Route 1A North. Go past Industries Drive with sign for Pondville Correctional Center on the left. MCI-Cedar Junction is at the top of the hill on the left.

GENERAL POPULATION VISITS & GENERAL RULES:
Visitors must contact the institution to schedule a visit. Please be reminded that you cannot schedule a visit with less than a 24 hour notice nor will you be allowed to schedule visits more than 2 weeks in advance. All visits will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. Inmates are not allowed more than one visiting period per day and back-to-back visits on weekends are not allowed. The maximum number of people allowed in a visiting booth is four (4). Only 2 adults are permitted. For the purpose of visiting, a child over the age of 13 is considered an adult. Small children should sit on the laps of the adults, however, if a child is too large to sit on a lap, he/she may stand. Only one (1) child will be permitted to stand.

Visitors can only call to schedule an appointment Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., 1:00 P.M. to 3:45 P.M. , and again, 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Full names of all visitors including minors must be given when making an appointment.

A visitor must be officially removed from one inmate's visiting card before he/she may request permission from the Superintendent to visit a different inmate at the institution. The Superintendent may deny this permission, pursuant to the authority granted to him under M.G.L. Chapter 127, section 36, whenever, in his opinion, allowing such a visit would be injurious to the best interests of the institution. In general, permission will be granted only when the first inmate leaves MCI-Cedar Junction.

Visiting periods are as follows:

Sunday/Monday

  • 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday/Wednesday

  • 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  

Thursday

  • No Visits

Friday/Saturday

  •   9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
  • 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

All visitors should make every effort to arrive at the institution at least 30 minutes in advance of the scheduled visit in order to be processed in a timely manner. Visitors who are 15 minutes late for an appointment will not be allowed to enter the institution for the day.

TEN BLOCK VISITS:

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF VISITS PER WEEK IS TWO (2).

The rules for scheduling visits for inmates housed in Ten Block is exactly the same as for inmates housed in general population, however, you may only call to schedule an appointment 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. When calling you should specify that you are scheduling a visit for an inmate housed in this unit. Ten Block visiting schedule is as follows:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday

  • 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
  • 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (every evening except Thursday)
  • 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (every evening except Thursday)

DEPARTMENT DISCIPLINARY UNIT VISITS:

Maximum number of visits per week is two (2). Total per month is four (4) when eligible.

Visitors can only call to schedule an appointment Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please be reminded that a 24 hour notice is required (at least a day in advance) and visits will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis. When calling, you should specify that you are scheduling a visit for an inmate housed in the Department Disciplinary Unit (DDU).

Visiting schedule is as follows:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday

  • 8:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m.
  • 9:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. (every evening except Thursdays)
  • 10:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. (every evening except Thursdays)
  • 1:00 p.m.

Note: all visits are one hour long.

SECURITY PRECAUTIONS

All visitors are required to lock their vehicles prior to entering the institution for visiting and having personal items locked in institutional locker.

IDENTIFICATION PROCEDURES: Visitors shall have in their possession a valid identification card which shall include a picture identification, their signature and date of birth. It must be a State or Federal identification, e.g., drivers license, passport, alien immigration card, or a state issued identification card.

PERSONAL EFFECTS: Upon entering visitors must disclose any articles they have in their possession other than the clothes they are wearing. Visitors shall not be allowed into the visiting room with any weapons, keys (except Administration Control locker keys), watches, jewelry (other than allowed in Visitors Dress Code), wallets, purses, smoking material or chewing gum.

Lockers are provided as a convenience. The institution shall not be responsible for any articles left within.

It is recommended that anything of value not be brought to the institution.

VISITORS DRESS CODE: The following restrictions shall apply to all visitors entering MCI-Cedar Junction:

Male Visitors:

  • No blue denim dungaree pants, coats, or vests.
  • No sweatsuits
  • No sweatpants.
  • No black, navy blue, or gray sweatshirts.
  • No fatigue or camouflage clothing.
  • No shorts.
  • No sleeveless shirts, bare midriff, tank tops or muscle shirts.
  • Any clothing similar to that issued to an inmate or uniformed personnel will not be allowed.
  • A blue chambray shirt will not be allowed.
  • Underpants must be worn.

Female Visitors:

  • No tights, leotards, or body suits of dance exercise fashion to be worn alone as an outfit; allowed only with pants, skirts, or shirts that meet the required four (4) inch length above the knee.
  • No spandex
  • No sweatsuits
  • No sleeveless garments, halter tops, tank tops, tube tops, or clothing that reveals the midriff or expose the back beyond the upper shoulder area.
  • No visible sheer clothing with/without undergarments.
  • Proper traditional undergarments, i.e., bras, underpants must be worn. The only exception to the rule regarding bras may be granted for just cause by the Shift Commander. No nylons or underwear with holes in the immediate crotch area will be allowed.
  • No bathing suits.
  • No gym shorts, or shorts that exceed the required four (4) inch length above the knee.
  • No low cut or excessively revealing clothing.
  • No dress or skirt that exceed the required four (4) inch length above the knee.
  • No skirts or dresses with slits that extend the four (4) inch length above the knee.
  • No open pockets.
  • No hairspray cans.
  • Earrings must not be long dangling type or sharp (pointy, dangerous).

Note: Female visitors must disclose to staff if they are wearing an underwire bra and may be subject to a further search.

All Visitors:

  • Footwear must be worn by all visitors
  • No jewelry other than a wedding ring and/or engagement ring, medical alert bracelets/necklace, one (1) set of earrings, and one (1) religious medal.
  • Clothing that is ripped, torn, or with holes is not allowed.
  • All hairpieces, e.g., wigs, toupees shall be subject to search.
  • No type of clothing that allows easy access under the garment will be allowed into the institution.

VISITORS WHO REQUEST TO BREAST-FEED AN INFANT

•  All breast-feeding will be accomplished within the attorney visiting room located at the entrance to the main institution visiting room.

•  A portable screen will be provided and placed in front of the attorney visiting room window to ensure privacy during breast-feeding.

•  When breast-feeding is completed both the infant and woman will be searched by a female staff member prior to resuming their visit.

•  In the event a visitor requests additional visitation time due to time lost while breast feeding, the officer will notify the Shift Commander. The Shift Commander will be responsible to determine if additional time will be granted. If no visits are scheduled after the individuals one hour visiting period, consideration will be given for an extended visiting period.

•  Upon the visitor leaving the designated area the privacy screen will be removed and secured in the utility storage closet within the visiting room.

SPECIAL RULES FOR CHILDREN:

Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Minor Consent Forms will be required if a child's legal guardian or parent is not present. The consent form must be notarized and approved by the Superintendent or his designee. Children will not be allowed in unless an original birth certificate or a certificate copy has been presented.

Children's conduct and actions are the responsibility of the accompanying parent(s) and/or legal guardian at all times.

Any reckless, loud or disturbing actions by child/children, the first warning to parents and or guardian and the second or subsequent offenses may result in a termination of visiting for that day and possible a more extensive bar. All such reports shall be submitted to the Superintendent.

If it is necessary for a baby bottle or sippy cup to be brought in, it must be a clear plastic and it must be able to be determined that either milk or formula is contained inside. Also one (1) diaper is allowed to be brought in.

EXTENDED/SPECIAL VISIT ALLOWANCE:

Extended/Special visits may be granted by the Superintendent in unusual circumstances such as when a visitor is traveling a great distance (out-of-state) and does not visit often. Extended/Special visits may include: back-to-back visits, multiple visits on one day, family emergency or approval of extra visitors (See also MCI-Cedar Junction Procedure for 103 DOC 521, Outside Hospital Security Procedures Policy). All requests for Extended/Special Visits must be submitted in writing, at least 48 hours in advance and is conditional upon available space in the visiting room.

Visitors shall not carry any guns or other weapons, controlled substances, alcohol, smoking materials, tobacco and tobacco related products and any other article whatsoever into or out of the institution. Any violation to this shall result in loss of visiting privileges as well as criminal prosecution.

ATTORNEY VISITS

Each visiting room in the institution has an area within it that allows inmates access to counsel and confidential contact with their attorneys and their representatives.

LAW STUDENT AND PARALEGAL VISITS

Law Students and Paralegals that wish to visit inmates housed in general population must do so during regular visiting hours. To clarify any confusion regarding this matter, they are allowed to enter the facility between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and between the hours of 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. They may also visit on Tuesday evenings between the hours of 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. They are not allowed to remain during any major counts. They are not required to wait for a regular visiting period to begin.

ARTICLES NOT PERMITTED INTO INSTITUTION

•  Personal wheelchairs (unless authorized by Shift Commander for special circumstances. Wheelchairs shall be provided by the institution.

•  Any personal effects such as beepers, cellular phones, gum, mints, paperwork, ID's car keys, watches, and double layers of clothing such as socks.

•  Absolutely no weapons are allowed inside.

ARTICLES THAT ARE PERMITTED INTO INSTITUTION

•  Locker Key

•  Wedding ring and/or engagement ring, medical alert bracelets/necklace, one (1) set of earrings, and one (1) religious medal.

•  Clear plastic baby bottle or sippy cup for baby.

•  One (1) diaper for baby if necessary

Programs Available at This Facility

Alcoholics Anonymous: A volunteer facilitated working support program where inmates learn about triggers to their behavior, understand past behavior and learn how to build a new, healthier sober lifestyle. This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction and MCI Shirley Minimum.

Anger Management: Volunteer facilitated program designed to help inmates identify and begin to deal with the root causes of their anger.  This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction.

Celebrate Recovery Program: A volunteer facilitated discussion oriented program designed to help inmates learn the steps necessary to break the cycle of addiction and have hope and faith towards long-term sobriety and serenity.  This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction.

Christian 12 Step: DOC Chaplain facilitated AA & NA program that incorporates Christian principles.  This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction.

Deep and Simple Group: Volunteer facilitated program based on the books “Deep and Simple” and “We’re All Doing Time” by Bo Lozoff.  It is a discussion-orientated program that is intended to help inmates come to terms with longtime incarceration as well as develop a sense of purpose and self-worth.  The program also encourages the pro-social development of spiritualgrowth. Inmates who are aware of their own anger and substance abuse issues are targeted for participation.  This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction.

Emotional Awareness and Healing: Volunteer coordinated program designed to foster emotional and spiritual growth and promote responsibility and accountability toward ones self and others.  Inmates are also taught skills to reduce disruptive behavior.  This program is facilitated at Bay State Correctional Center, MCI Cedar Junction, MCI Concord, MCI Shirley, North Central Correctional Institution, North Central Correctional Institution - Minimum Unit, Northeastern Correctional Center and Souza Baranowski Correctional Center.

Fitness Program: Volunteer facilitated, in cell video program designed to provide inmates with fitness education and enhance physical wellbeing.  This program is available at MCI Cedar Junction.

Heart to Heart: Staff facilitated program designed for the inmate to look within himself, understand his feelings and learn how to communicate from the heart to others. This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction

In-Cell Video Program:Staff coordinated program for which a comprehensive video library has been established to enable inmates to access substance abuse, life skills, anger management and other programming.  This program is available a MCI Cedar Junction.

Jericho Circle Project: Volunteer facilitated group that targets a variety of criminogenic risk factors that are pre-cursors to criminal behavior in an effort to develop integrity, accountability and emotional intelligence. This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction and Bay State Correctional Center.  This program is facilitated at Bay State Correctional Center, Bridgewater State Hospital and MCI Cedar Junction.

New Freedom Program: An educational and therapeutic substance abuse and behavioral health in-cell study program which addresses coping skills, risk factor management and relapse prevention.  This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction.

Parent Support Group: Volunteer facilitated program, designed to help the inmate improve family and parent/child relationships through a greater understanding of self and the dynamics of the relationships in the family.  This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction.

Prison Fellowship Basic Bible Study: Volunteer facilitated Bible Study session for the purpose of providing inmates with opportunities for spiritual growth and health This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction.

Prison Fellowship Fatherheart: Volunteer facilitated program designed to assist inmates in developing the skills needed to improve their relationships/develop healthy relationships with their families using Holy Scriptures.  This program is facilitated at MCI Cedar Junction.
