Hi you guys. I am new to the whole prison experience. I just made an appointment for the first time to go see my fiance on friday the 21st. He is currently at san quentin state prison here in california. Do any of you know anything about what to expect? On the visiting hand out that he gave me it says "you will be asked to strip down to your last layer upon going through the metal detector" what does that mean? What is the visit going to be like? I know it is behind glass, but I just have so many questions and I can't find the answers to them all...can any of you out there help me? thank you!

Did you already submit CDC form-106, and been approved to visit ?? If not, they'll turn you away. You could call San Quentin @  (415) 454-1460 and ask for visiting department to confirm what I've posted; maybe they're different up there, and don't require approval like most state prisons.

Failure to plan (for the future), is planning for inevitable failure in life. Those who don't learn from past history, are condemned to repeat history.

Oh my, Im so glad I found you!  Im new to this too and I am utterly alone and I miss my man horribly and all I know is he was transfered from county here in Redwood city to San Quentin and he hasn't called me, can you tell me why? I don't know how to visit or what its like but maybe thats because i havent heard from him.  I tried to call but everyone who answeres the phones up there are hella mean and wont tell me anything, maybe you and I could help eachother where are you located?

Hey girl! I know how you feel! It is very scary. When my man was at San Quentin, he was never able to use the phone. I don't know much about their phone time, but im sure he will give you a call the first chance her gets. I was lucky enough to FINALLY get someone nice one of the last few times I called up there. They mos. def. are not the nicest or most patient people, but I think I can understand why...they are dealing with us women who are goin crazy missin our men heehee i am located in petaluma. Are you in redwood city still? as soon as you hear from him, then get a visiting form so u can hurry n get the approval to go see him.

Hello,

I have a man in San Quentin on parole hold. His regular PO was on vacation for the month, and someone else came in and told him they could not help him with his hearing that he had to plea. Of course he did not take the plea.

I have been searching everywhere for people to contact.. At  San Quentin almost all the connections go to a message that says we can not connect you at this time.

I talked to an operator who told me that if he is in the hole he is allowed no phone calls, but can get mail and have non contact visits.

BUT.... that was not my question ..this was my question... He has had his hearing and I want to know if he has a no contact with me in it. The person who misrepresented him told him he would get an additional year if he contacts me. So he stopped writting. I have no idea if he is getting my mail or not. Wouldnt they return it if I am not on his mail list?

I called his parole officer, who will now not be back till the 16th,and she told me she saw the time but not anything else.(she was in for one day) An Agent Rodriguez told me no one was taking over her cases.

She told me it was ok to write. This is so frustrating because I know if he thought it was ok to write he would be.

oh yes she told me after the fact he could have waived his hearing till after she came back. How are we supposed to know that?

I dont know anyone who has aloved one in the prison and I am hoping to chat with people who can shed some light on this.

I can't find much on the internet

Help....Please...

Going Crazy here.

Hey there! I know from experience that dealing with San Quentin can be very frustrating. They never gave me the answers i needed either. what you can do is write him still...their mail is often times backed up, so it may take a little longer for the mail to get to him. I would put ONLY ur address as ur return address on the envelope. my sister had a restraining order against her current boyfriend, and when he went back to jail on domestic violence, they were to have no contact with eachother, but she is able to stll write to him she just puts Mrs. (then his last name) on the envelope. try different things. dont give up. you gotta stay strong and hold it down for him. he needs you to be strong. i know its hard. trust me i know. my hubby is down for another 10 yrs, and he has already been down for 5. its really hard, but we are all they got. so girl keep ur head up. and you have plenty of us ladies here to back u up if u need something. keep me posted and if u got any questions, do let me know. if you need to chat, i am here as well! sending my love ur way. you and yours will be in my prayers!

much love!

oh wow, I am even more scared now about going to visit my guy in jail.....

I read all the bumff" he sent me regarding what I can and cant wear, what ID I need and all stuff about searches etc,.. and even that kinda unsettled me.

BUT I am still peeing against the wind tryong to find ANY info on where to stay, what to do, and how to get to the jail when i find aplace to stay....

I am flting an 18 hour flight to go visit my man, and im hoping that we are granted a "special visit" BUT if not we get 1 hour mybe 2... wow a LONG way for an hour huh??

It must be so hard for ladys who were together a time before he went away, so i may not have the right to state that I actually miss a man i have not even met yet...... BUT we share many many words in many many letters, some letters have gone beyond the 35 page mark, im sure the UK and USA Pstal service hate me by now.....lol....

But i guess not many folk can understand when i say I fell in love with a man in jail, so thats why i came to this site, to see if i can make some contact with any one who is in a similar situation, or even some one who can advise a scared female traveling a long way on her own over Christamas time too.....

Where can i look to find hotels? I dont even know if FLCI has any town/village near by. In the UK every where is so close by to anywhere, that I JST KNOW I will get lost out there....

Kind regards

And smiles from across the pond too

Hello there 3,000 miles! I must start out by saying that i have so much love and respect for you. It is a beautiful thing to hear about someone falling in love thru letters. my best friend lived across the country, but started writing this man that was in prison, and has been in prison for 12 yrs. well they fell head over heals in love and are now getting married. She had never met him before, but back in April, i took her to meet him for the first time (he was my husbands cell mate) and she was sooooooooo nervous, but they felt that they knew eachother for years already, so their visit went great. Im sure everything will be great for you as well. love sure is a beautiful thing!

Don't worry about the things you can and cant wear and the security checks. What prison is your man at? Really the security checks aren't that bad. I know they differ from prison to prison, but the two prisons that i have gone to visit at were not that bad at all. an 18 hour flight?!?!?!?! that is such a long flight. i bet this trip you are going to make will show him just houw much you truly love him! awww i am so happy for you and also so excited for you!

it is very hard to have had a relationship with a man and then lost him to prison. I spent a few years with my man before he went to prison. He has now been down for 5 1/2 years, and was arrested 2 days after my birthday, so it breaks my heart every year when my birthday rolls around. but you stil have a right to say you miss him!!!

You came to the right place for some support and helpful information. I know most of us if not all of us, feel what you are feeling and we are here to help. If you need anything let me know! once you let me know where ur man is going, then i can help give you insight on all that you need in order to be set once you get here. keep in touch, and you will be in my prayers!

Thank you for getting back to me on this matter :-)

He is in Fox Lake correctional institution, in Wisonsin.

He has been sending me names of hotels to stay that are just 20-30 mins drive from  him, BUT I am unsure if i can get a cab from a hotle in WI o the prison, I KNOW It will be freezing cold when i get there, and I will be on my own over Christmas while over there in USA. BUT Its the only chance i can get to be there, and if it means making such a sacrifice, then so be it :) I have tried to look on line for info abt the place, area and transport etc, but not having much luck. My trip is getting closer each day and the nerves are building more and more too.

I will be back in touch very soon, time for me to get to work now. Its 7am here in cold dark Britain :-)

I will keep you in my prayers, Have a great day. D
