Hi, I am totally new to this.  My guy is in prison in Mississippi.  He just received Early Release Papers and is thinking he will be home before his date of February 2009.  Can anyone tell me anything about this?  His charge is possession of a weapon (brass knuckles he made as a kid) of a felon.

 That is good news!!

I am happy for you both....Early Release papers certainly mean he is going home soon, but all I can tell you based on my knowledge here in California is, that he can be sent home anytime before his original release date. They will probably let him know 3 or 4 weeks in advance.

Good Luck!

Ciao, AH

I've got to warn you, a few months ago, the Los Angeles Times published a story about "Early-morning crackdown on violent gang members."  The article claimed police showed up without warrants, raiding homes and residence where supposedly "violent gangbangers" reside.  They didn't need search warrants because all the targets were on probation.   The news article said they were violent, but what contradicted the headlines, was they were all caught with their wives, GF, or family members.  Although no weapons were recovered, some were arrested for violating their probation terms.  One guy was arrested for having a toy gun  Surprise that belonged to his 10-year old son. The fine-print of his probation says he's not allowed to have any simulated firearms.  Another guy arrested had a video game magazine, showing a picture of an assault rifle, which also violated his probation terms, which stipulate he's not allowed to have depictions of firearms in his possession.  When he's released on probation, carefully review the fine-print clause of his probation terms.  I'm guessing he's not even allowed to own a BB gun, let alone any toy gun, or  cartoon or actual picture images of firearms.  I don't know how it is in other states, but California is tailor-made to create more arrest and overcrowded prisons and jails, which translate to overtime hours and more $$ for jail and prison guards.

Failure to plan (for the future), is planning for inevitable failure in life. Those who don't learn from past history, are condemned to repeat history.
