He just went to jail a week ago. is there someone i can call to give him the message? any advice would be greatly appreciated

The best way to reach your relative is to call the prison/jail and get the visitation schedule. If you cannot visit, call and get the information on how to write him. The letter can take up to two weeks to reach him.
is he in prison or jail? If prison, you'll have to write him and tell him. At the jail, (most of them) you can visit and give
him the information.

Sometime the gaurds will give a message if your really polite and you tell them it is some type of emergency.
I have done it before with my son and he was given the message.
