Hi~
What an experience that last month and a half have been!! My boyfriend of 3 years was arrested on April 30th of 2008. He has been in County Jail, Pittchess Detention Center~ East Facilty, since then but yesterday (Wednesday June 18th) he was moved to reception at North Kern State Prison. No more phone calls for a while and no more driving up there every weekend, well untill I get approved! Im going to miss his calls but I am trying to stay positive... Hes one step closer to coming HOME!!! He was given 16 months, we were told its he may get 50% if he has good behavior. While he was in county they made him a Trustee... The family and I are all getting through this with the support of each other and God.
Im hoping to find out some info on the State Prison he is currently at and just have some support. Some days are better than others... today hasnt been to bad. I've just been TRYING to stay positive!! I miss him dearly!

Hi, I am vickid2, new to this site but not to the prison life. 8 1/2 years ago my husband was sentenced to 17 years at 80%, that is 13.8 years. We have 5 years left and it isn't easy. Over time it has gotten easier and we have had rocky moments but we never give up hope for a better future. My husband has been moved from California Medical Facility to a Fire training camp place called Sierra Conservation Center. Much further from me so I don't see him very offen at all. We are having the hardest time with this move. SCC is now telling my husband that they might be transferring him to Susanville, much further. I used to visit my husband every weekend at CMF now in the past 6 months I have only visited 2 times because of the distance, and now he will be even further. I am really having a hard time now and it is not easy at the moment. I just wanted to post that.

I feel your pain. My fiance was sentenced to 13 years. He has been in county since April of 2007, so I was used to nightly phone calls and seeing him every weekend and since May 30th we have not talked or seen each other (obviously). As a warning, the mail at NKSP is SO slow, so plan on him not getting your letters for 3 weeks after you send them. Go to the CDC website http://www.cdcr.ca.gov/Visitors/Facilities/KVSP.html there is alot of good info there. Good luck!

You experience sounds very similar to mine. The system took my son from me on July 3th and he has moved about four times so far. This is all so frustrating and confusing. He got 16 months too and we are hoping for the same, that he will do half the time. He is only 20 and had NEVER been in trouble before. He actually just applied to go to college just before all this happend and now I feel like his life is ruined! Other moms out there, you MUST ask your kids where they are going and ALWAYS know who their friends. My son was with the wrong kids, in the wrong place at the VERY wrong time!
I am wondering how long it takes for visitation approval but I guess it depends on what prison they are in and stuff like that. My son is at WASCO last we heard. We did receive a letter from him and it was TOTALLY like Christmas was here!! I have read that letter at least 10 times and I keep it under my pillow at night. I guess it makes me feel better to know that he touched the paper and so in a bizarre way, I feel connected to him through that piece of paper.
One small bit of information I have learn from all the reading and researching I have been doing that sounds silly but was important to me was that if you send them pictures, you have to put their name and CDC # on the back of the pictures or they will send them back. One important thing I have noticed is that my faith in God has gotten stronger since there is noone else who can really help him at this point but God. My daughter and I pray every night that Jesus will keep his angels around my son to protect him and keep him safe.
Thanks for letting me ramble on...this isn't something you can really talk about to friends or co-workers. Only someone else going through this mess can really relate.

I was just wondering if you were able to get your question answered yet? Here is some information I found that might be helpful to you. The Main California Department of Corrections website is: www.cdcr.ca.gov That website has a link to every prison in California. Once you are on their main page, click on: VISITATION and then ADULT FACILITIES. Once you are there, scroll down until you find the prison you are looking for. Click on that and it will take you to that facilities main page.
You can also call 1(800) 374-8474. This is the VISITATION HOTLINE. You have to listen to an automated attendant ramble on until you finally get to the facility you are trying to obtain information on. It takes a little bit of time but isn't that all we really have right now....time.
