Prison Place

Lock down status, what does it mean to us, and what does it mean to them?  I can only speak for my family and relay the words that I read through the letters that my husband sends me.

Lock down for my husband is a tough one.  He isnt in a dorm where it is open space.  No he sits in a two man cell.  To be locked away like a caged animal is alredy hard enough then to be confined 23 hours a day make him remember his ag seg days. 

Though he says that during this time he has time to reflect on what he did to get there the frustrations of the isolation are hard.  It is during this time when inmates hurt themselves because the silence of what surrounds them is too loud!

This is a time od shackdown,  where they go through the private things of your loved ones, and mind you they dont place things in a neat pile.  No, they go in like animals themselvs and purposly ransack all the special cards and letters and pictures that you loved one is so proud of.  God forbid they find a fan that another cellie left you, that isnt on your property list. No doubt they will take it and them more than likey give you a case. (over a fan)  Im the last shak down they destroyed pictures of me, they tore of cards, things that my husband holds dear.  Items that cant hurt anyone, but keep the moral up for my man.  They take them, destroy them to tear down my husband.  To strip him of his outside life.  To destroy the images in his mind of the free world.  Thats why it is so important to constantly remind them of our love.  You would be surprised of the many men who have no one anymore. AThe road gets too tough for many loved ones.  The years seem too long, and sometimes alot of loved ones just dont want to be part of that journey. 

For me lock down scares me.  I worry that my husbnad will lose his composure and allow the rage in him to come to the surface, causing him to catch a case.  THe CO's simply abuse thier power, some are younger than my husband. 18 years old straight out of hughschool and in charge of my husbands every move. 

I dont wish to CO bash here as they aer not all bad, but those few evil minded ones make it hard for those that are trying to do good.

Lets just pray for all inmates, no matter thier crime, the bible says to love the sinner and hate the sin,  so stop thinking about this one or that one did. God is in control now.

Mine is where he is for a reaso, but i think that he is finally ready to come home.  The only shake down hell be getting then is in the bedroom. :-)

That is wonderful your husband well be home with you soon. I don't like to think about all that goes on inside but I do know what you have said is very true it breaks my heart to think of everything that my son faces on a day to day bases. I wish you and your husband the very best.

Im sorry, I didnt write that to hurt you.  I sometimes forget that we on the oustide have a hard time dealing with what is going on inside,   Im sure your son is going to be fine, just write him alot and tell him you are there for him.  That is just about all we can do from out here..  I know i sent my husband 2 letters a day, sometimes more, cuz i know mail call is very important for them.

Just keep enocuraging him.  Hell get through it.

 My son is in lockdown at Leake County Correctional Facility in Mississippi. It is a very hard time for me and I think he is having a rough time in this country jail. It is really bad to see officers treat inmates like they do and then they are innocent of any wrong doing and the inmate will suffer. I just have my faith that the Lord will bring my son out of there in two years a sane human being. After the abuse and problems of five years I am not so sure what he will be. There is no rehabilitation in the prison system. There is only hate and grieve! I know I have seen it with my own eyes for the last three years. MY NEPHEW IS IN MCI SHIRLEY MAX AND HE IS IN LOCK DOWN AND COME TO FIND OUT TODAY THAT THEY WERE STARVING HIM AND A COUPLE OF OTHER INMATES AND THE CO"S WENT INSIDE THERE CELLS AND STARTED BEATING THEM UP SOME GOT BROKEN TEETH SOME GOT BROKEN JAWS AND MY NEPHEW GOT HIS FACE MESSED UP.I THINK ITS TIME WE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE ABOUSE OF OUR LOVED ONES NO ONE SHOULD HALF TO TAKE THAT KIND OF ABOUSE PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES IN THERE LIVES AND WHEN THEY GO TO JAIL FOR A LONG TIME THEY PAY FOR THERE CRIME SO WHO GIVES THESE CO:THE RIGHT TO ABOUSE OUR LOVED ONES. MY NEPHEW IS DOING 10 TO 12 YEARS IN THERE FOR A MISTAKE HE MADE . HE IS LOCKED DOWN 23 HOURS A DAY A ALLOWED ONE HOUR OF FREEDOM ,THEY ARE HUMANS NOT ANIMALS,I WOUNDER HOW THE CO"S WOULD FEAL IF THER WERE LOCKED DOWN FOR ALL THAT TIME AND DONT GET TO BATHE OR EAT OR EVEN CALL A LOVED ONE.THATS THE PROBLEM WITH THESE PRISON THEY THINK THEY CAN TREAT THEM LIKE GARBAGE .WELL ITS TIME TO TAKE OVER AND SHOW THEM THAT THEY JUST CAN HURT OUR LOVED ONES ITS TIME TO PUT THE SHOE ON THE OTHER FOOT AND SEE HOW THEY FEEL.I LOVE MY NEPHEW DEARLIE AND IF ANY THING EVER HAPPENED TO HIM I DONT NO WHAT I WOULD DO.LOVE YOU VERRY MUCH NEPHEW.                                                                                                                                                                                                                    

You know I have noticed that lock down facilities seem to encourage abuse and disregard.  I work youth corrections in Nevada, only we are told to focus more on rehabilitation, we carry no weapons, and the kids have "rooms" not "cells."  With my man being in Corcoran, one of the most violent lock ups in California, I do nothing but worry when he doesn't call on time, or write at least once a week.  I try to write every day, and I send pictures of the kids and stuff, and even if it's just a note to say I love you, I know that geting it will help him out! 

As bad as it is for them in there, I feel that we have to be stronger out here, because we can't let them think we are falling apart...it just causes them more worry.  I look forward to my weekly calls, and I am blessed to know that there are only 24 more until he comes home.

No one should be treated the way some of our loved ones are treated in there.  But sadly, some people feel that they are a number and a bed. That type of individual should not work in an institution where they can hide behind a badge and a gun. In fact, they should be in the next cell over for assault.  I  am sorry for your nephew.
