    LEGISLATION:  EARLY RELEASE

Assemblyman Sandré Swanson (D-Oakland), has introduced AB 1965, a bill to require the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to establish a program to allow prisoners who are at least 55 years of age, are incarcerated for a nonviolent offense, have a diagnosed chronic illness or disease that requires ongoing medical attention, have medical coverage, and meet other specified criteria to be released on early parole.

TiPS' whitepaper on how to fix California's prison crisis, which was distributed prior to last year's Lobby Day, emphasized the need to release the nearly 4,500 terminal and chronically ill inmates.

These inmates, most of them unable to walk on their own and are confined to their beds, pose no credible threat to public safety and do not belong in prison.

We are pleased by Assemblyman Swanson's response to this irresponsible use of taxpayer dollars and wanted to let our members know of this progress.

Happy Holidays to all of you and know that you and your loved ones are in my prayers this season.....

    Re: LEGISLATION: EARLY RELEASE

As you know that the Gov put the smash down on the early relese. But I'm wondering what happened to the 3 judeg panel? Are they stay able to step in and put a cap on the number in each prison? Even if they still meet, they will probaly have to fight the Ca court system. Have you heard anything about the 700 that were stated would be released?
