Does anyone know the visitation rules for Texas prisons? I hate to keep asking the same thing, but I really need to know! Whenever I finally do get to visit my son I will also take my younger 4 children ranging in age from 18 years to 21 months and it would be nice to have an idea of what to expect. I need the info for TEXAS prisons. Any info at all will help. Also does anyone out there know where I can get a rules and regulations handbook?

try this:
For all the rules and regs on visitation, you can contact the ombusdman office. Their email address and phone numbers are listed on the tdcj website. Basic info is this: Only 2 adult visitors allowed at a time. I think as long as the children are under the age of 16, there shouldn't be a problem with taking them even if there are 2 adults. Over the age of 16 will have to be listed on the visitors list and have a valid picture ID. You can take coins for the snack machines but no paper money is allowed. Also, no cell phones or weapons. You can expect your car to be checked at the gate. They will look inside the car, under the hood, and in the trunk. They do not go through your car with a fine tooth comb but you may have it cleaned of excess items before going to visit. Your clothing has to have at least short sleeves, nothing very low cut, and nothing above the knee. It is allowed to take your car keys in but I would try to keep the key chain to a minimum. Also, to carry coins inside, try to find a clear container of some kind as they can better see the contents. When you enter the unit, you will be swept with a hand held metal detector. They record the make, model, year, color, and license plate of your car. These are just some basic rules and could vary slightly from unit to unit. Be sure to check the rules at the unit you are going to visit as well as the general state rule book. An example of a varience in rules: From some units you will be allowed to take the snacks and drinks outside the unit while at others, you are required to throw everything away, opened or not. The inmate is not allowed to take anything back inside with him.
I hope this has helped.
My boyfriend is located at TR Havins Unit in Brownwood. It was formerly a state jail and was transformed in to an IPTC community in November 2007.
My son is in Segovia Unit at Edinburg,TX.
My husband Anthony (as of yesterday he's my husband) is in the Sanchez State Jail in El Paso.
My husband was moved again. Now he's in the Lablanc Unit in Beaumont, Tx.
Congradulations Donna & Anthony. May you have many years of love and laughter.
Hi,
Try this link for information on visitation
http://prisonplace.com/forums/t/102.aspx
My husband is currently back at the Holliday Unit in Huntsville. Last year he started out there, went to Byd Unit for a week then ended up at Segovia in edinburg TX. i dont know where they will send him now for his new charge and also parole violation. He's been at Holliday about 2 weeks already, I bet he gets shipped out again soon. Byrd is rough, no air moving and hot as heck he said. segovia is miserable too he said when he was home. The Leblanc unit isnt far from me at all, though I know he wont be sent anywhere near home, they just dont do that.
By the way, there is a very friendly and supportive group on Cafe Mom that has a group you can join called
(My husband / boyfriend / babys daddy is in jail / prison), seriously thats the name of it. There are a lot of women in that group, about 165 or more and they are all so supportive of each other. Try it out if you'd like, its much easier that this site. alyssa's crazy life also has women whose loved ones are incarcerated, I think many are from TX in that group, also a bunch of really nice women
One other item, does anyone know how you can get the photos of mug shots or prison mug shots they take when they arrive? Many other women have those, got them online. I've had no luck finding mine, I dont think TX wants anyone but them to have them.
