    (poem) Let's Take A Walk

This poem was wrote by my son who is serving  31 year

Let’s take a walk  Let’s take a walk, and look through these eyes of mine.  See how I view my world and tell me what you find.  Can you see the gun tower which keeps my escape plans at bay? An unspoken message of sure death it conveys each day.  What about the barbwire fence which protects the world from me. Or does it protect me from the world, and what the worlds come to be. Look at the prison guards with the riot sticks on their waists. Eager to use unnecessary force cant you see the smirk on their face. Glance at the recreation yard and see the split between the racial groups.  Divided and conquer is the oldest trick in the book the system uses. You can see the hate in the eyes of every inmate that walks the track.  Internal conflict inside everyone, not to mention the social skill they lack. You can sense the tension of every racial group you pass.  If you pay close attention to their body language I am sure you will catch on fast. It's those close attention to details that one must accustom him self with quick. My eyes are for survival without them I would be in deep ***. Let’s take a walk, and look threw these eyes of mine. Take a glimpse at the other side of these walls I am behind.

What an incredibly powerful piece.  Your son is quite talented - I hope he continues to write and that you will share his work with others here at Prison Place.  I am sending your son's piece to my husband who is serving 25 to life.  I know he will be able to relate to your boy's words.  Thank you for sharing.
