My son is up for parole in Michigan for the first time - he goes to the board on Feb. 3rd. He has done everything they have asked of him and then some to better himself. I'm praying he will be home in September. He will be an uncle for the 1st time in about 3-4 weeks. He has already missed so very much.

Hi everyone-I joined prisonplace yesterday and have been reading the blogs. I am a mother with a son incarcerated in a Federal Maximim Security prison.  He has been in for two years and his release year is 2026. There is no  parole for federal prisoners right now but hopefully that will change. I can feel the pain of the other parents in here as we worry daily about our children. The best thing I feel though is the unconditional love. Sure,I get angry at him sometimes for being in this situation and putting us thru this but I always encourage him to stay strong and try to find positive things to do inside and avoid the negatives. I saw one posting regarding a parent being extorted by prison gangs regarding their son.  They attempted that with our family early on and my advice scary as it sounds is do not give in. It will never stop once you start with them. They tried to charge my son "rent" for safety and regardless of what my son thought we told him not to deal with them. He still gets threats  from time to time  but not to the same extent as when he entered. It is sad that some people inside have feel the need to terrorize and dominate  but I guess that is what is similiar about the inside and outside world unfortunately. Iknow that as many cards and letters you can send your loved ones really does help their time go by faster. Phone calls are great also, but depending on the prison those can be rare. Well, enough from me for now-my hugs to all of you-Molly.
