My boyfriend is there. He just got sent there about a month ago. And I sent my visiting form last week. DO you know about how long it takes to get apporved? And/or what visiting is like?

It varies on how long to get approved, but you can count on at least 1 month.  Visiting is one hour behjind glass -just like at county.  Visiting is Saturday and Sunday from 8am - 2pm.  No appointment is necessary. 

Once you are approved, your boyfriend will be notified and he will write and let you know.  Or, you can try calling the visiting deptartment and start asking if you are approved after it's been at least a month.

As usual, Terry is on top of it. It took my brother about a month to get approved to visit me. I agree with Terry, if you haven't heard anything after a month, start calling.. Good Luck and let me know if there is anything I can do to help...

No, it must come from him because he must sign the back before he sends it to you.  It MUST be signed by the inmate.

I just had a friend moved there and this is a first for me.  He has asked his father to put money on his book through me. can you let me know how to do that via the internet.  Any help you could offer would be appriciated.

Do you know of a site where I can check to see if he is processed.  I know he is there because I just received a letter from him.

I'm not sure what you mean by processed.  If he just got there from County, he's in reception and that takes about 3 to 4 months.  Once he's classified, he'll be shipped to a mainline prison - or fire camp or CCF or whatever depending on his sentence and custody level.

If you got a letter from him, you now have his CDC# and housing, so you can write to him and you can put money on his books.

Because this is so new to me I dont not knows the does and don'ts. what are they allowed to recieve? ie. Can I send him cards? I tryed to send him one while he was in county and they sent it back.

Is there a number I can call to check on his status? This is so hard. I am thankful and feel blessed that I recieved a letter and long to recieve another since my understanding is that no one knows how long it could be until he gets mainlined from reception due to the over crowding of our state prisons. When he was in county I heard from him every other day if not every day. Then bam nothing. I was also able to check his statis on line witch is how I found out he was moved.  This waiting and wondering is making me crazy.  Every time my phone rings at night I am praying it reads prison on the caller ID.  Does it get easier when they finally get assigned?  On one hand the months are flying by on the other it seems as time has stopped.  Any advice in how to cope with all of this?

there is a # u can call im not sure of the number but you can find it on the cdc site. i got letters every day from my dude when he was on the receiving yard, but unless u send him embossed envelopes hes probably limited to writing. u can send 10 at a time and 25 pieces of paper at a time.  my dude was on receiving for like almost 3 months before he went to the mainline.  he was in delano for 3 months then to corcoran.  it really doesnt get any better when they get to the mainline but he will b able to use the phone.  right now being on receiving he wont b able to call u at all.  all i can say is write lots of letters communication with him will make it easier.  i write my dude every day and he does the same.  staying busy helps somewhat too.  good luck to you i hope u can find a way to cope with this unfortunate time in ur life.
