Thanks for the info JP. I always wonder how much of it is correct. It took about six months for them to have the proper Warden listed for NKSP. Looks correct now though. At least the directions to GET there are right, eh?

 I can only get the basics of this post request.  I know it is asking for help with or from the Algun family reagarding North Kern.  If anyone here can help me with my VERY limited knowledge of Spanish - please respond with a translation.

My fiance is gonna be transferred there  to do his last three months of his sentence. How is it there ? Is it better than Wasco! He's worried cuz he said he probably wont know any of the inmates there.LOL

 Was it North Kern he is going to or Kern Valley?  They're across the street from each other and though NKSP does have some mainliners, that prison is predominately reception.

my brother is in north kern & hes still in reception, i called to try & find out if i can go see him, my mom was the only one approved... yet.. im still "pending" how is visitations in the reception area?

 Reception visits are one hour behind glass.  You don't need an appointment.  Best time to arrive is about 7:30 or 8am. 

So if I just go during visiting hours I can see him the same day? what kind of information are they going to need? and do they require an identification from me to be able to see him. I only have the CDC# is this enough? Sorry for so many question is just that I'm new at this and my husband want to go visit his brother at NKST.

Once you are approved you can go.  If you get there around 8am you will not have to wait long to visit.  The visit is one hour.  Whomever is visiting must bring in their ID.  You only need his name and CDC#.  Do not wear blues or olive greens and no blaze orange or white tops - these look too much like inmates or guards.  Stick with blacks, pinks, purples, yellows.  Do not take in your purse - just your ID and ONE car key.

what do you mean once I am aproved? We were thinking of going this weekend coming up but my husband's brother doesn't even know we are thinking of going because he just got transferred Dec. 18 and I was just able to get the CDC#.  I undestand that at NVSP we need a form signed by him to be able to send to the prison to get it aproved to be able to visit him right? But is it the same at NKSP?

You must be approved to visit any inmate in a state prison.  Did he transfer to NKSP from a county jail or from another prison?  Were you both approved at the other prison if that's where he came from?  If not, you must have him send you a signed visiting form for each person who wants to visit.  You then fill them out and send them back to NKSP to the visiting department.  Approval usually takes about 30-60days.

He was trasferred from a county jail to NKSP. Yes I did undestand and thank you for explaining it to me. So I was reading that greeting cards or post cards get to the inmates faster than letters, is that right? If that is the case I'm going to send him a greeting card asking him to send us a visiting form. Do you know if there is a special procedure for disable family members visiting an inmate? How many people can visit an inmate at one time? Just to double check with you, the address to send any inmate at NKSP is the following?

Hi Nancy,

Yes, once the mail starts flowing to a reception inmate, greeting cards are fastest because the mailroom staff doesn't need to read them or look for contraband.  Be sure to ask him to SIGN each form before mailing (this is a MUST) and send one form for EACH visitor.

I believe there will be handicapped parking and easy access as far as wheelchairs.  You will be sitting at a back of phones for the visit, so that makes the wheelchair easy to accomodate.

I believe for phone visits, 3 visitors at a time, but you might want to call the visiting dept. and check on that.

It's NKSP - which stands for North Kern State Prison

The zip should be 93216, not 43216.
