Re: Kern Valley State Prison (Delano 2)

Hi my boyfriend was recently transfered to Delano reception from the LA county jail.  I was wondering if the PO Box 6000 address you posted was good for sending inmate mail?  Also if he had been at Jamestown before being brought down to LA for a past case do you know if he'll go back to Jamestown?  Just curious.  Thanks for the help it's very much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Viola

Re: Kern Valley State Prison (Delano 2)

    Hi Viola -

First off let me explain that there are 2 prisons in Delano; KVSP and NKSP.  North Kern State Prison is where reception is.  The best thing to do in regard to an address at which to write him, would be to call North Kern and ask for inmate records and get his housing and PO Box from them.  661.721.1234.

His CDC# should be the same if he never discharged from parole.  I'm a bit confused about that since you say he was in SCC and then went to County in LA and is now back in reception.

There is no way for me to know if he will return to SCC.  Was he in Level 1 there?  In a camp?  Will this new case add time to his sentence and therefore add points that might raise his security level?  All of these things will determine where he is sent next.

Fee free to email me directly if there is anything else I can help with.  terryann@reform3strikesnow.org

    National Geographic - Prison Nation

    Sunday, November 25, 2007, at 08P

Hidden deep within our country is a dark, parallel world - a Prison Nation most of us never see. This dangerous realm - inhabited by 2.2 million American convicts - is today in crisis. Increasing violence, extreme crowding, rampant drug use and gang warfare are all part of daily life. And every day it gets a little worse. The United States now has more prisoners behind bars than any other country on earth. National Geographic Television journeys deep into the heart of America's troubled prison system in a two-hour special, navigating this world with the inmates who struggle to survive incarceration, the officers responsible for controlling and protecting them, and the experts trying to solve the crisis of Prison Nation.

A yard A3 building on quarantine for chicken pox

On Tuesday, 11/13/07, an outbreak of Chicken Pox was identified as coming from KVSP, A Yard, Building 3. That building was put under a 21 day quarantine. So that means no movement of inmates whatsoever.  No visits should be expected for the holiday weekend at least and possibly the first weekend in December.

    Lockdown Update

Both A and B yards are still completely down from the prison-wide lock down which began 10-26. They both have normal visiting, but no other privileges.

A3 ONLY is now on a quarantine with no visits. The building went on quarantine on the 13th for 21 days due to a chicken pox outbreak.

D yard whites and blacks are still on lockdown from the riot last month. This includes gym inmates. They are on non-contact visiting only and you must call to make an appointment. 661.720.4952 Monday and Wednesday only between 9am and 1pm.

C yard is still up and running normal program.

    Holiday Card Campaign

My KVSP group is starting its holiday card campaign and I wanted to make it available to anyone here who knows of prisoners who would benefit from receiving a card during the holidays.  If you know of an inmate - even your loved one - who you feel would like to receive some holiday cards, please either post here with their info or email me off list and I will add their names to the list.

Also, any member here who would like to send cards, let me know and I will send the list to you once it's compiled.  We hope to have this year's list complete by December 1st and I will post and let you all know it is available.

    Lockdown/packages update

Calls are getting out regularly from A, B and C yards. Packages are also being passed out FINALLY.

There is a rumor that Walkenhorst's might be removed as an approved vendor for KVSP. I haven't gotten confirmation on this yet, but if anyone is planning to order a pacakge for KVSP anytime soon, you might want to avoid using Walkenhorst's this time until we know for sure.

Updates on C and D yard

An inmate in C7 was killed earlier this week in what his celly says was a fall from his upper bunk.  The prison is investigating it as a possible homicide, however.   C yard is up and programming regardless.

D yard whites and blacks, who have been locked down for months, MAY be coming back up as early as next week.  Be sure to check the visiting hotline to see if they get their normal contact visits returned.
