I worked in a prison when I was 21. I remember the first evening walking into work. I was with an older CO....he was probably late 60's. He was a very well liked CO by both inmates and staff. I asked him about guys being gay in prison. He stated to me in no uncertain terms that there were only two kinds of inmates, one that sucks a D* and one that lies about it. After working nearly 15 years in prison before moving on, I would say he was not 100% correct, but darn near. I worked in a maximum security prison. These guys had no physical relationship with members of the opposite sex and had a ton of time to do. They adapt to their surroundings. Many times you would see 'relationships' between white and black inmates. I asked some why it was this way and they would always say that when they get back on the streets there would be no chance to run into the 'partner'. Until you live or work in a prison it is hard to understand how easily this happens. They are people too and need physical love and affection just like everyone else.
