He missed a scheduled call, should I be worried?

If he hasn't called and you expected him to call, don't be worried. As hard as it is not to worry, there are many factors that can cause them to not be able to use the phones, and those are factors out of the control of our loved ones. Lockdowns, transfers to another facility, busy phones, scheduling, and power failures all can cause them to miss calling us. Also, our loved ones sometimes may feel guilty about the charges you are accruing because of the calls. Especially husbands and boyfriends who were used to helping pay the bills while they were out.

So no, don't worry. Give him a chance to make time or find the opportunity to call you. If enough time (at least a couple days) has passed and you haven't heard from him, and you are sure that your line is clear to receive calls, contact the prison. First make sure that there is not a lock-down. If not, the CO you speak with may be able to confirm that your loved one is still in the general population. Being in the general population means he is not in ad-seg or the medical ward. The CO should also be able to confirm if he is still at that facility. If you are not able to get any information from one of the CO's who answer the phones, you may ask to speak to his counsellor. While the counsellor may not be able to give you any information, they should be able to confirm he is fine, and sometimes, in urgent cases, can encourage our loved ones to call home.

Bye, Ro
