 Why are there so many restrictions? I read that we can't wear anything too revealing

Although the inmates are given salt-peter, a substance used to subside sexual hormones/erections, during visitations the TDCJ or other correctional institutions want to limit anything that may cause sexual arousal. Since the inmates are locked up for long periods of time sexual gratification can become an uncontrollable urge that could lead to the rape or sexual abuse of a fellow inmate. So any deterant is deamed necessary to limit any "excitement" of a confined inmate.

During visitation there may be inmates that are in for sex related crimes unbeknownst to fellow inmates that may be having visitation at the same time. so, personal advise: limit any visitation by children or persons under the age of 18. If this not possible, ask the warden or any prison guard on duty if there are any inmates doing time for sex related crimes will be present during your visitation. It is mandatory that they reveal this information but not the inmates name or crime. If you don't feel comfortable with this knowledge of said person/s then, once again, try to limit any child involvement if possible. If the young person must visit then find suitable clothing that is nonrevealing (excessively tight pants, shirts that would exceed or exagerate the breast area-V-cut, low-cut, sexual related pictures or comments).

I have been stopped from going to see my step son with my husband from not having a bra on. Then at another time when one of my daughters was 12 they wouldn't let her go back to see her brother, so I had to go to the nearest dollar store to buy her a bra before they would let her go back to the visiting area.

Sometimes I think it is just a power trip for the corrections officers in charge! I and others can wear the same outfit 3 weeks in a row, all with no problem...then, BAM we are all refused!

I has spent the longest time to figure out which outfit meets their requirements and this is what I am staying with!! 

your best bet is just to wear t-shirt and jeans sneakers and socks.  Or a nice shirt but nothing low cut.  Always wear all your under garmants.  i have seen women get told to leave because their shirts rise up in the back.  just be smart at visitation if you wont wear it to a church then dont wear it there.  When my husband was a middletol they went by the book as far as clothing and stuff but where he is now they are a little nicer and more family style and we are able to wear a little more but but i still go on with better safe than sorry.  If you want to see your loved ones then you have to play by their rules and they will change from unit to uniti have found out.  Just enjoy what ever time you may get to spend with them and laugh, cry and talk hold hands and remember all the good times because right now that is all any of us have and this is what they live on till the next time.  okay off my soap box for now.

When an inmate has little or no outside contact from friends or loved ones, they're more likely to display hostile anti-social behavior. The COs claim they have these dress policies so as not to sexually arouse inmates, yet they allow homosexual men to blend with the general population, which is creating an underground male prostitution market of gay men who offer sexual favors in exchange for cigarettes, special treatment, or merchandise from the canteen charged on a client's jail account.   The COs are hoping to discourage visitation, thereby leaving your loved ones to feel you no longer care for them.  When you visit a loved one regularly, it gives them an incentive to be compliant & be in their best behavior.  Good behavior eventually leads to early release when the inmate's parole hearing comes up.  Early release means less inmates, and less overtime hours.  These guards rely on overcrowded prisons for job security and overtime hours. 

Observe these dress policies are not posted online, nor do they send out written dress policies when you ask to send them info.  The prison guards are using psychology on us outsiders to discourage visitation, which contradicts the rehabilitation process of converting habitual criminal offenders into becoming law-abiding productive members of society when inmates are eventually released.  Legally & morally, the prison has a duty to prepare inmates for eventual release back to society as rehabilitated citizens.  The $$$ that otherwise should go into education and job training of inmates are instead going to overtime pay for guards working extra hours to keep watch on overcrowded prisons.
