The Western Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center (WRDCC)
opened in St. Joseph, Missouri in September 1999. The facility confines
1,934 minimum to maximum (C-1 to C-5) male offenders. WRDCC serves as
the intake center for males entering the Department from the Western
Region of the State. The reception and diagnostic unit processes
offenders for assignment to facilites across Missouri. Processing
includes orientation to prison life, risk assessment, substance abuse
assessment, educational testing, and mental health and medical
evaluation. The Western Region Treatment Center (WRTC) a 595-bed unit
is located within WRDCC. WRTC has an 84-day parole violator, 120-day
and 180-day cognitive behavioral substance abuse treatment programs.
WRDCC also maintains a general population, which includes a
transitional housing unit (THU) designed to prepare offenders for their
return to the community upon release from incarceration.
